Goldilocks and the three chairs

Yesterday I found three amazing chairs at a thrift store I haven't visited in a very long time.  It is definitely about to become a frequent stop.  As I was walking in, I noticed a sign that said all chairs were 50% off.  Hmm, a good sign.  (No pun intended).   I came away with these three lovelies.

It's funny to think these three chairs would never have been used in the same room or even the same building.  They are each from a different time and made for a different purpose.  But somehow they all ended up waiting together at the thrift store - along with a lot of other less attractive friends.  I wonder what kind of places they've been and what stories they could tell.

The first chair is just right exactly as she is.  She is a beautiful antique with amazing detail and was a steal at 12.50

The second chair has a great shape and her caning is even intact.  But she is too fussy.  She is definitely ready for a makeover.  She cost five dollars.

The third chair is a sturdy old schoolhouse chair that was only four dollars.  At first, I was planning a makeover.  This chair's wood is very dry and dingy.

But, I really love the old worn paint that is still clinging to it.  I definitely don't want to ruin that.

What to do?  Maybe some lemon oil or tung oil will help freshen her up?  Whatever I decide, I will definitely let you see how these lovelies turn out.

love your chairs! I use a mix of equal parts lemon juice, vinegar, and olive oil - with a splash of lemon essential oil for scent - on all of my old wood pieces; it cleans and nourishes the wood at the same time :-)

Oh gosh, I can't wait to see what you come up with! I love finding nifty old chairs too! These chairs have so much character already but I can envision many possiblities for them too.

Gosh, the choices are endless with these three! You have such varying designs, you could go three completely different ways with each one.
I definitely thing you should start going to this thrift store more often!

Fantastic finds!!! What about a white wash on the third chair? You could still see the paint come through and I love how dry wood just soaks up a white wash!! Have FUN and can't wait to see end results.

Aren't you glad you stopped by that store??? I love the first chair! You are going to have fun with #2 and a coat of wax and a cute pad is all # 3 needs.

Fabulous finds! You hit that store just at the right time. I don't think they would have gone too long without being adopted.

I love old schoolhouse chairs. I have one in my office for my desk chair. Maybe just use Murphy's Oil Soap on it to freshen it up a bit because you don't know who's butt has sat on it before. I like the old worn paint showing through here and there.
