Pale gray armoire and a big sale

After many weeks, I finally have a furniture transformation to share with you!  This one is pretty simple but I’m learning that sometimes simple is just what a room needs.

This vintage armoire began as a gift from my awesome friend, Juice.  It was left in her 1920s home when they bought it and she kindly passed it on to me.

It didn’t look terrible before but the finish was pretty rough and it wasn’t looking particularly fresh or inspired.

After a light sanding and some patching with wood filler, I used my favorite primer (Zinsser oil-based cover stain primer with the brown label).  After priming, I very lightly sanded again and then followed with a new favorite paint color – Valspar’s Silver Leaf.  At first glance, this color looks white but it is actually a very pale, subtle gray.  I love it!

(And in case you didn’t know, you can use latex paint over oil-based primer.  I often do with really great results. The oil-based primer is great at sticking to just about anything but I don’t have the extra cleanup of using oil-based paint.)

After painting, I lightly distressed all of the edges, with particular attention to the details on the doors.

Now it is just the thing for extra storage in a bedroom, nursery, family room, even a bathroom.

This lovely lady is currently for sale in my little shop at Olde Salem Mercantile.

And speaking of my little shop – there are major changes in the air.  Sadly, the time has come to close my booth at Olde Salem.  Between the ever-nearer arrival of our first baby and my full-time job, there is just not enough time in the day.

I am, however, planning to keep things here on the blog rolling and am currently in the midst of tons of projects.  I am really excited to be able to focus my creative energies on my own house again rather than things to sell.  And I have been having great ideas left and right.  (Well, I think they are great anyway).

As I will be closing down my booth in just a few weeks, everything there is now on sale for 30% off the rest of this month!  Talk about a great sale.  And when I say everything, I mean everything.  From teeny tiny magnets to furniture.

If you do make it down to the Mercantile, you can now find my booth to the right and toward the back of the store.  Or just ask the ladies at the front counter.

What do you think of the pale gray?  Are you all about the gray right now like me?   Hope you have a fabulous week!

That’s a beautiful transformation. It should sell quickly. Sorry about the booth, but there are only so many hours per day. You’ll be able to go back to it when time works better for you, perhaps.
