And when I sat back and really thought about it, I realized that while I really like vintage stuff, I wouldn’t actually describe my style as vintage. Yikes! Here I was with a DIY blog and no idea what my style actually was – how embarrassing.
(Not to mention vintage isn’t really a style anyway. Cottage, midcentury modern, French provencial, primitive, art deco – those are styles. Vintage just means kind of old – so it pretty much includes a few hundred years of different styles.)
Which put me back at square one – what is my style? But before I can answer that, another question comes to mind - why do I even care what it is?
3 reasons to figure out your decorating style
- So that when you come in your front door and look around, you smile and breathe a sigh of happiness because you are truly home.
- So that when you are trying to decorate a room in your home, you have a starting point and aren't pulling out your hair in frustration at the overwhelming amount of choices.
- So you don’t buy some random thing because it is so cool and an incredible find and you saw it in this totally awesome room on Pinterest. And then you get home and realize you actually hate it.
Stay tuned because I am now on a mission to do just that. I’ve found some really great tips for figuring out what you love and I can’t wait to try them. I’m going to be sharing them over the next few weeks and I hope you will try some of them right along with me. (Plus I am neck deep in lots of awesome projects that I can’t wait to finish up and share.)
So what about you – do you know how to describe your style? Any tips to pass on for how you figured it out?
