At first I was hoping to replace the missing veneer and redo the table top. I thought this table looked really sweet in its original wood tone and wasn’t planning to paint it. But the remaining veneer top had water spots all over it so I tried to lightly sand it down to remove them. In case you didn’t know, sanding veneer is a VERY delicate matter. Things were going great until some small pieces chipped off the edge and I couldn’t find them anywhere.
This may have been rash, but I decided to forget fixing the veneer, forget lovely natural wood, and just paint the thing. So I removed the rest of the veneer from the top – which was not as quick and easy as I would like – and used wood filler to fill in some scrapes and scratches. After changing my mind about color a few times, I settled on this custom gray.

I have an almost identical table…also from goodwill, and I have been putting off it’s paint job, but I think I have been inspired. I am going with a bluey-grey. LEt’s see how it goes!
