It’s been awhile since I shared a life lately post so I have a lot of great finds and happenings to share!
By far the biggest thing happening in my life (in case you missed the announcement) is we’re having another baby! I am officially 18 weeks pregnant and feeling good. We’re starting to get to the fun stuff now: thinking about names, dreaming about the nursery, and going through the adorable baby clothes in storage.

But of course there is also lots of other fun stuff happening. Here’s what I’ve been up to lately:
Packing away the Christmas tree – yesterday! I cannot believe we left the tree up until almost February! That has absolutely never happened before. I undecorated the tree almost a month ago, but taking the actual tree down just kept getting put off. A part of me thinks I should be ashamed for leaving the tree up so long. But truthfully, I really liked having the snowy tree and festive twinkle lights hanging out in the corner of the family room to brighten up winter a little longer.
Reading so many books! This cold winter weather has got me in the mood to cuddle up on the couch and read whenever I get the chance. These are a few of my favorite recent reads:
- The Sun in Also a Star by Nicola Yoon Everyone is talking about this book right now and I can totally see why. At heart it is a super snappy, fun young adult romance. But it also brings up so many relevant issues including racism and immigration without ever coming anywhere near preaching or lecturing. I absolutely flew through this book.
- Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center This was actually my second time reading this one. I don’t often re-read books, but sometimes I love a book enough I just want to experience it all over. This one hits all my sweet spots – funny, a great plot, and a fun romance without being just a ‘romance novel.’ I loved it just as much the second time
Exploring Nashville! My husband and I were able to sneak away for a few days without kids and it was amazing. Mostly because we were able to sleep in as late as we want and eat at restaurants without interruptions. Heaven! Of course it was also fun exploring Nashville. I’ll admit I was wondering if there was going to be a lot for us to do. We aren’t huge drinkers (and duh, I’m pregnant!) and I’m not really a country music fan either – so the music scene and ‘honky tonk’ bars held no appeal. But there was actually still plenty to see and do. A few of my favorite stops: checking out The Hermitage, taking in a show, grabbing some delicious pizza at Desano Pizza Bakery, and the amazing breakfast buffet at Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant. And of course, we did some shopping at the Nashville Flea Market – I didn’t end up buying much but there was tons of fun stuff to see.
Joining the awesome new Facebook group Upcycle Sharin. If you love upcycled/repurposed junk even half as much as I do, you definitely want to join this group. There is so much awesome inspiration shared in the group plus you can share your own latest projects and finds. Request to join here.
Wanting some new throw pillows. The dreariness outside has me wanting to add lots of lively color inside. I think this pillow cover from Etsy is amazing!
Listening to the podcast Ask me Another. My husband and I both love podcasts but we sadly our tastes do not align. This is one of the only podcasts we both love and it is our go-to on roadtrips. It’s a really funny trivia game show from NPR. Playing along as you listen is a must.
Planning to take more photos of my boys. I’ve been really slacking on this lately and they are just so darn cute. One of my goals this year is to take more pics of our everyday life.
Dealing with gestational diabetes. Poor me. I didn’t have gestational diabetes in my previous pregnancies so this is my first time dealing with this. At first I was seriously down about it – I love, love, love carbs and chocolate. But it actually hasn’t been quite as bad as I imagined. But I will totally own that I just bought two boxes of Girl Scout cookies to save in the freezer until after this baby comes and I can eat what I want again. A little something to look forward to! I’d love to hear tips or advice from anyone who has been down this road before.
Working on the kitchen! Now that I finally finished up our never-ending bathroom renovation, I’m ready to tackle the last few projects in the kitchen. It is so, so close to being finished and I can’t wait to cross it off the list! I still need to switch out a few lights, make some window coverings, and finish a few more last minute details. If there is one thing I have been learning about myself lately, it’s that deadlines really motivate me, so I’m setting my own deadline to finish the kitchen by the end of February. Time to get to work!
