THE BEST PAINT ROLLER FOR CABINETS & FURNITURE

I've painted dozens of cabinets and furniture with both paint brushes and rollers. I'm sharing my favorite paint roller to get a smooth finish every time!

HIGH DENSITY FOAM ROLLERS VS FLOCKED ROLLERS I have been using high density foam rollers to paint furniture. I found some recommendations for flocked foam rollers as the best choice, so I put them to the test.

I painted one door using one of my old faithful Whizz brand foam rollers and the other door using a Whizzflock flocked mini roller.

I figured the paint would probably level out more as it dried, but when both doors had dried, one was noticeably smoother than the other.

THE BEST PAINT ROLLER drumroll please... the high density foam roller was the clear winner! It wasn't even close.

Now I feel even more confident saying that high density foam rollers are the best for getting a smooth finish on cabinets and furniture.

HOW TO GET A SMOOTH FINISH WITH A PAINT ROLLER MATERIALShigh density foam paint rollerhigh grit sandpaper  – high quality paint brushFloetrol

- start with a smooth surface - if painting a wood surface sand it with 220 grit sandpaper  - use a good paint that is self-leveling - stir it thoroughly before painting - roll your roller around to make sure all sides are loaded with paint - paint with long, even rolls

MORE TRICKS FOR THE SMOOTHEST POSSIBLE PAINT FINISH - if your paint isn’t rolling on smoothly stir in a little water or Floetrol -use Penetrol for oil-based paint. - before your final coat of paint, sand your cabinets or furniture lightly with 300-400 grit sandpaper.

If you are noticing a small amount of stippling, dampen your paint brush with a little water. After rolling on your paint, lightly run the paint brush over the painted surface using long, even strokes.

Once it dries, you should have a silky smooth texture! This is what I used to paint my kitchen cabinets and it worked great!
