21 Fun Halloween Front Porch Decorating Ideas from Real Homes

These Halloween front porches are packed with all kinds of fun Halloween decorating ideas for front porches of all shapes and sizes.

I haven’t really done much Halloween decorating in the past. I love to go all out for Christmas, but I’ve never made much effort to decorate for other holidays. But this year I’m excited to do some Halloween decorating for the first time and it’s all because of my eight year old.

My son Lincoln absolutely adores Halloween. It’s been his favorite holiday since he was a tiny toddler. He loves everything about it. And for the last few years, he’s been getting out his art supplies and making his own Halloween decorations. He’s made paper bats and taped them to the ceiling fan. He’s made little Happy Halloween banners for the fireplace. He’s cut out jack o’ lanterns to hang on a mini Christmas tree in his room.

And I know he would be thrilled if I joined in on the Halloween decorating this year, so I’m going for it. (And don’t worry, his handmade decorations will still have a place of honor!)

My seasonal/holiday decorating philosophy is that there’s no need to decorate every room; concentrating everything in a few places packs the most punch. The front porch is definitely one of the best spots to add a little holiday flair, so I know that I want to concentrate most of my Halloween decorating efforts this year on our front porch.

As I’ve started gathering ideas for our porch, I’ve noticed there are a few common elements that show up in a lot of Halloween decorating:

  • Pumpkins – lots of pumpkins of all types including real pumpkins, fake pumpkins, and all types of jack o ‘lanterns
  • Fall decor including mums, wheat stalks, and hay bales
  • Skeletons and skulls
  • Spider webs
  • Witches hats and brooms
  • Ghosts
  • Ravens
  • Tombstones
