My repurposed, thrifted, handmade Christmas decor

I LOVE decorating for Christmas.  I didn’t really realize just how much until I had my hands full with a newborn last Christmas and didn’t decorate at all.  I was chomping at the bit to get decorating this year.

Chrismtas decorating using everyday stuff

I am not a huge fan of having tons of holiday décor stored all year.  For one thing, I hate to buy (or spend lots of time making) things that are only going to be used for one month of the year.   It also just seems so excessive to have tubs and tubs of Christmas décor sitting around – a bit contrary to everything Jesus was about.  And since it is really supposed to be a celebration about Jesus, that seems like kind of a major point.

But did I mention I LOVE to decorate for Christmas?

So I made it my goal to Christmasify my house by making all of my regular stuff do double duty as Christmas décor.  Nothing like a bit of repurposing!  In the end I think I was pretty successful.  I did use the Christmas décor we already own – namely hubby’s nutcracker collection and a tiny Christmas village we started when we first got married.  But pretty much everything else is repurposed, thrifted, or handmade.

mini Christmas village

And finally, our mini Christmas village.  Which is completely not repurposed or handmade clearly.  But my husband loves it and he does deserve to have some say.  (Incidentally, our village contains a police station, bowling alley, and art shop – perhaps not the most practical town).

Ah Christmas!  So how do you repurpose your everyday décor for Christmas?  Or do you go the more traditional route?  And is anyone else obsessed with vintage Christmas ornaments like me?

I am sharing my Christmasified home at Work it Wednesday 52 Mantels Thrifty Thursday, Weekend Bloggy Reading, Link Party Palooza, Super Saturday Link Party, and Christmas Extravaganza.

Thanks! I LOVE globes – I collect them compulsively so it was great to have a good way to use one. And I love the knit stockings so much! You are right – they are super cozy.

Thanks you so much! I am a bit of a globe fanatic so I had to figure out a way to incorporate one in my Christmas decor. :) Thanks for hosting the Christmas Extravaganza.
